Neko Case is a long time love of mine and I couldn't be more excited about her new album, The Worse Things Get, The Harder I fight, The Harder I fight, The More I Love You. Her voice is rich and full and her songwriting beautiful and intelligent. For me she has the just-right amount of country twang and heartbreak and is so full of attitude. I've seen her live a few times and always marvel at how strong and then how quiet she can be. If you haven't heard her stuff, Star Witness is about my favourite song of all time and a beautiful place to start (I especially love the piano bit, right at the end). My friend David loves Deep Red Bells, and thinks 'it looks a lot like engine oil and tastes like being poor and small and popsicles in summer' is one of the best bits of songwriting around. I'm inclined to agree.
